Imperativo negativo – irregular verbs and pronouns

Irregular verbs in Imperativo negativo are the same as in Imperativo afirmativo. Their forms are different, of course, but they are quite simple. You just have to remember Imperativo afirmativo.

To put an irregular verb into Imperativo negativo, take its form for usted in Imperativo afirmativo, and add a corresponding ending.

decir – to say

(Imperativo afirmativo for usted is diga)

tú – no digas

usted – no diga

ustedes – no digan

vosotros – no digáis

nosotros – no digamos

Verb forms for vosotros and nosotros don’t have the e-ie and o-ue modifications.

vosotros – no contéis

nosotros – no contemos

However, if a verb with a vocal modification (e-i, e-ie, o-ue) ends with ir, vosotros and nosotros of these verbs will also be irregular.

Vosotros and nosotros have the e-i and o-u modifications only if a verb belongs to the 3d group (ir).

Imperativo negativo + pronouns

Dative, accusative and reflexive pronouns should be placed before a verb in Imperativo negativo.

No me lo digas – Don’t tell it to me

No me espere usted – Don’t wait for me

No le muestres el DNI – Don’t show him your DNI (ID card)

No os vayáis – Don’t go away
