Interrogative pronouns are used to build questions. This lesson is about three interrogative pronouns, which can produce some confusion. They aren’t new to you, but still have something that is worth explaining.
cómo – how, what … like
Cómo is needed to ask somebody to describe an object or an action.
¿Cómo es tu casa? – What is your home like?
¿Cómo estudian ellos? – How do they study?
Notice, that there is always a verb after cómo. It can be ser or any other verb.
¿Cómo son las chicas en España? – What are the girls in Spain like?
¿Cómo te llamas? – What’s your name? Literally, How do you call yourself?

qué – what
This is the first interrogative pronoun that you ever learned in this tutorial. Using it, a speaker asks to give an object’s name.
¿Qué es? – What is it?
¿Qué quieres? – What do you want?
¿Qué hace tu marido? – What does your husband do?
In this case, qué is followed by a verb.
qué + noun
This is another possible combination with que. It can be paired with a noun to ask a listener to name a specific object within a class of objects.
¿Qué coche tienes? – What car do you have? (Give me its name)
¿Qué música escuchas? – What music do you listen to? (What kind?)
¿En qué ciudad vives? – What city do you live in?
It’s just like in English: what + noun.

cuál – which
Cuál is used to ask a person to choose an object among other objects.
¿Cuál es tu coche? – Which is your car?
Éste – This one
¿Cuál es tu película favorita? – Which is your favourite movie?
Sometimes it’s hard to determine the difference between qué and cuál. While their meaning can be pretty similar, their grammar is not.
The verb ser should come after cuál.

¿Cuál es tu plan? – Which is your plan?
This is basically equal to the question:
¿Qué plan tienes? – What plan do you have?
